Safety, health and wellbeing

The health, safety and wellbeing of our employees and contractors is our number one priority. We believe that every injury is preventable and that no task is so important that it cannot be done safely.

The pursuit of ongoing safety performance improvement has seen a recent renewed focus on workplace hazard reporting and action plans, fatigue management, increased visible safety leadership, improved communication channels between the contractor and site management, and root cause analysis of all reportable incidents.

Health and Wellbeing

We engage with our employees and contractors to promote a balanced, healthy lifestyle and work to raise awareness about the importance of mental health. Our Employee Assistance Program gives employees access to free and anonymous advice, support and coaching from trained professionals. We are proud sponsors of Cobar Men’s Shed which provides men with an opportunity for companionship and support within their community.

Emergency Response

As part of our preparedness for Emergency Response, specific processes and procedures are well established and regularly reviewed. Our management teams and emergency responders are provided with significant training in preparation for any such events.

We seek to minimise the environmental impacts of our operating activities and implement strict internal practices in line with local and national standards.

Water Management

Water management is a critical issue for both our local communities and our mining operations due to the ongoing drought affecting large parts of NSW. We have been actively working with local councils and water authorities to implement water saving initiatives at our operations.

Initiatives introduced at both Peak and Hera have reduced our utilisation of council water allocation by almost 70%, with this expected to reach over 95% during the June 2020 quarter.

Modern Slavery

We aim to ensure that we operate honestly and ethically, with respect to human rights across our operations and supply chain. We see this as a fundamental element to our social responsibility and the sustainability of our operations.

In accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth), we are required to lodge a Modern Slavery Statement annually. Please find below a link to our first Modern Slavery Statement for the period 1 July 2019 to 30 June 2020.
